A Full Weekend of Colour, Crowds and Community Pride

The Loxton Mardi Gras is back for the 69th time! The ever-popular family festival will roll into town next year on Saturday, 28 February and Sunday, 1 March. One of Australia’s longest-running community parades, this Riverland favourite brings tonnes of colour, crowds and local pride, all wrapped around this year’s Disney theme.

Saturday is the main affair, with more than 50 floats and vehicles on parade, joined by bands, dancers, community groups and the much-loved Nippy’s Great Underarm Orange Bowling Competition. Markets, food stalls, an art exhibition and kids’ activities fill the program from morning through to the Ambassador crowning and float prize announcements. Local businesses also join the fun with themed window displays worth a look before the parade starts.

Loxton Mardi-Gras Parade, 2025

The Mardi Gras has always been about supporting the town. What began 69 years ago to raise funds for an Olympic-sized pool now brings in more than $20,000 most years for community projects, thanks to a steady crew of volunteers who keep the tradition going strong.

Sunday morning heads to the Rotunda for the Appreciation Service, honouring a South Australian military nurse, thanking local volunteers and presenting the 2026 Parade Flag Bearer.

If you’re planning a Riverland weekend, this one fits the bill. Bring your family, find a comfy spot for the best view, and enjoy a classic country parade in one of the friendliest towns around.
