Care Packages Are Helping Yorke Peninsula Women Through Unexpected Hospital Stays And Emergency Transfers
One night of connection, laughs and rural women coming together has now turned into something far more lasting for local hospitals across the Yorke Peninsula.
The organising committee behind Yorke Peninsula’s first Rural Women’s Day Event, held at The Stables at Halcyon last year, has officially delivered Women’s Toiletry Care Packages to hospitals at Yorketown Hospital, Maitland Hospital and Wallaroo Hospital.
Using funds raised through the event, the 2025 committee directed $9,500 towards practical care packages for women facing unexpected hospital stays and emergency medical transfers.
Comfort During Difficult Times
In regional areas, things can change quickly.
One minute you’re at home. The next, you’re being flown to Adelaide with no time to grab a phone charger, clean clothes or even a toothbrush.
Recently, organisers Meg Honner and Natasha Mahar personally delivered the packs to the three Yorke Peninsula hospitals, along with an additional $1,000 donation for each hospital to support patient care services.
Hospital staff warmly welcomed the donations, describing the initiative as thoughtful, practical and deeply appreciated.
Each pack was designed to help ease stress and provide comfort during difficult moments, with items including phone chargers, pyjamas, puzzle books, toiletries, grip socks, underwear, notebooks and personal care products.
The committee also made sure the packs were assembled in four sizes, Small through to Extra Large, so women of all shapes and sizes would feel considered and included.
Supporting Yorke Peninsula Women
Event organiser Natasha Mahar said the group wanted the event to create something meaningful beyond the day itself.
“As a committee, we wanted to use the funds raised in a way that directly supported local women during vulnerable moments,” she said.
“These packs are designed to provide both comfort and dignity at a time when many women are navigating stressful and unexpected circumstances.”
Fellow organiser Meg Honner said the initiative reflected the caring nature behind the event.
“The generosity shown by everyone who attended, sponsored and supported the event has allowed us to give back in a very practical and heartfelt way,” she said.
“We hope these packs offer some reassurance and comfort to women when they need it most.”
The inaugural Yorke Peninsula Rural Women’s Day Event brought together women from across the region to celebrate leadership, connection and community, while also raising funds to support women in regional areas during difficult circumstances.
