Taste the Flavour-packed Peninsula at ‘Savour the Yorkes’

Abbie Tiller

Fresh from the Land and Sea – Savour the Yorkes dishes up region’s finest

It’s more than just a pretty view – the idyllic Yorke Peninsula also boasts an abundance of local produce, fresh from the land and sea. As part of the country’s longest running eating and drinking festivals, Tasting Australia, Maitland’s Barley Stacks Wines will host a family-friendly day of food, wine and music from the flavour-packed Yorke Peninsula.

Stepping beyond a standard food festival, Tasting Australia is an annual celebration of people, produce and places. Barley Stacks Wines, the first commercial vineyard and winery established on the traditional barley belt of the Yorke Peninsula, invites foodies to discover deliciously different experiences from the popular Peninsula playground.

Utilising local produce, fresh from the land, sea and abundant cereal farms on the Yorke Peninsula, various producers will offer entrée-sized dishes allowing guests to graze their way through the afternoon and learn about local ingredients.

Bringing tantalising treats to Savour the Yorkes this year is the team from the deep seas of ‘the bottom end’, MBC Foods. Incorporating as much local produce into their catering as possible, from gin, wine, beer, honey, olive oil, fresh eggs, home grown meat, native foods and succulent seafood from where the St Vincent and Spencer Gulfs meet.

The legends from Newchurch Family Farms will also be tantalising tastebuds with their native Australian Superfoods, grown on local Narungga land. Stansbury’s Rustic Tarts will be flying the flag for dessert-lovers, and Yorkes Coffee Co will bring the smooth and delicious flavours of their Wallaroo roasted and blended coffee.

Pair your fusion of flavours with 100 per cent locally grown wine from your hosts, Barley Stacks Wines. Yorke Peninsula beer and spirits will also be flowing, so you can graze the day away overlooking the stunning Yorke Valley, listening to tunes from talented local musicians, JJ ARV, Darren Braund & Caleb Raymond.

This flavour-filled, free-to-attend event will include family-friendly lawn games and activities, but guests are strongly encouraged to register their attendance so food vendors can fish, pick and pour enough YP goodness for everyone.
