Terroir Auburn closes its doors after 11 years of fine Clare Valley cuisine
In bitter news for foodies, high profile Clare Valley restaurant, Terroir, has announced it will close next month.
Owner and Chef, Dan Moss, has taken to social media on behalf of he and wife Annika, stating that “with gratitude, a heavy heart, honour, relief and a tear in their eye”, the Auburn restaurant and and guest suite business, which they opened in 2012 will be serving its last course on May 31.
Preparing to put the popular locavore eatery on the market, the couple were unable to secure the lease required to sell the business in its current form and stated “the volatile and uncertain economic future this country is currently facing” was a big factor in their decision to close the doors.
“We won’t be the only ones making this decision this year,” he wrote. “Brilliant and very talented operators will be faced with this choice also, and we hope they have the courage to make the right business decision for their families.”
He said he couldn’t express how brutal and upsetting it was to walk away from something he and his wife have poured their whole heart into over the last eleven years and said the issues facing the hospitality industry were yet to be fully recognised “by those decision makers at the top”.
“We do food and beverage extremely well here in South Australia, it’s one of the State’s most important draw cards.”
He urged both the Federal and State Governments to listen to the industry’s leaders, “and help”.
Terroir is one of three “hatted” restaurants in the Clare Valley, complimenting the region’s high quality wine with a sophisticated dining experience using as much local produce as possible.
In closing his heartfelt announcement, Dan said he was deeply humbled and thankful for Terroir Auburn, which had given him the chance to live out his dream to open and run his very own restaurant.
