Live music, camping and plenty of good times are coming to Mallee Spirit this October

Hitch up the van, throw in the camping gear and point the car towards Lameroo, because Mallee Spirit Rocktober is gearing up for a long weekend of live music, great gin and good times!

Mallee Spirit RockTober is coming this October long weekend, with five acts and plenty of rock favourites on the bill.

Visitors can roll in from Friday or Saturday, set up camp, settle in around the fire and ease into the weekend before a full day of music, food and drinks on Sunday.

It’s exactly the sort of weekend Mallee Spirit owners Robin and Ron Valentine had in mind when they transformed part of their farm into a place where great gin, great food and good times could bring people together, giving locals more to enjoy close to home and visitors another reason to spend some time in the Mallee.

“We don’t want to be big, we just want to create a family of visitors and friends who like coming here to share in what we have worked hard and invested to create in the middle of a broadacre farm,” Ron said.

The Mallee Spirit RockTober Line-Up

Music kicks off at noon on Sunday, with five acts taking to the stage in Mallee Spirit’s Grain Shed.

Long-running Adelaide band Sudden Comfort will bring rock favourites spanning the decades, while RockZee will mix classic rock anthems with modern hits and six-piece Rock Hudson Ensemble has plenty of crowd favourites up its sleeve.

Mildura three-piece Jettinator will also make the trip across the border, with young Lameroo local JayMarr rounding out the line-up with his guitar.

From Grain Shed To Gig Venue

Mallee Spirit has come a long way since Robin and Ron first began talking about bringing more events and entertainment to their farm.

An old grain shed from a nearby property has since been repurposed into an event space, opening in May with Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham playing the final stop of their national tour.

It’s since hosted SALA, while concerts and Sunday Sessions have become a regular fixture, as Robin and Ron continue building the kind of place people want to come back to.

Roll In And Stay Awhile

Caravans, campers and tents are all welcome onsite, making it easy to settle in and make a weekend of it.

The cellar door will be open Saturday afternoon and evening and, weather permitting, the campfires will be going with a bit of impromptu music thrown in.

Saturday night will also feature a screening of Code Blue The Movie, a locally produced film about a band with strong connections to the region that played at Mallee Spirit last year.

On Sunday, the music cranks up and the kitchen gets busy, with homemade pizzas, bratwurst rolls, Memphis chicken bites and plenty more to keep everyone fed into the evening.

And if you don’t have your own camping gear, you’re not ruled out. A limited number of Oz-Tents with beds are available onsite, or Lameroo is only 10 minutes away, with bus transport available for groups staying at the hotel.

So, if live music, campfires and a few nights under Mallee skies sound like your kind of long weekend, you know where to point the car this October.
