South Australia’s Spring Garden Festival returns with gardening experts, food, flowers and inspiration

If your garden is starting to wake up after winter, the SA Spring Garden Festival is the perfect place to gather some inspiration.

Returning to Mount Pleasant on Saturday, September 19, the annual festival will once again run alongside the popular Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, giving visitors even more reason to make the trip, with local produce, delicious treats and plenty of gardening inspiration all in one place.

Get some inspiration from the best in the business

Some of Australia’s most respected gardening experts will share their knowledge at this year’s festival, including ABC Gardening Australia’s Sophie Thomson, who’ll be sharing her tips on future-proofing your garden. Fellow Gardening Australia presenter and author Hannah Moloney will also take to the stage with a session on integrating animals into the garden.

Joining the festival for the first time are Katie and Rob, the founders of the much-admired Little Lyndoch Flower Farm, who will share their next chapter as they establish Blume Estate near Mannum.

Beyond the guest speakers, festival-goers can spend hours wandering through close to 100 market stalls and exhibits, browsing everything from specialist nurseries, rare plants and bonsai to rustic timber furniture, handcrafted garden art, sculptures, flower stones and locally made homewares,

From growing ginger and creating your own flower farm to worm farming, fruit trees and wicking beds, there’s something for everyone—whether you’ve got acres to play with or a few pots on the back verandah.

One for all ages is the “Recreate Your Garden” workshop, where everyday recycled items like plastic bottles, tin cans and old CDs will be transformed into colourful planters, insect hotels and quirky garden art.

The SA Spring Garden Festival has become a favourite on the South Australian gardening calendar and, much like the gardens it celebrates, continues to grow each year, with an ever-expanding lineup of guest speakers, exhibitors and experiences.

If your garden wasn’t already calling your name after the first signs of spring, chances are it will be by the time you head home.
