Loxton’s Art Trail takes over East Terrace

Art month returns to Loxton with workshops, local creations and $3K up for grabs in the Junk Art Comp

We’re big fans of the arts here at Greater SA, and so are our mates in the Riverland. Once again, Loxton’s main street will turn into a colourful celebration of creativity this August. It’s the kind of event that shows just how much local talent is packed into this part of the world.

From August 1-31, more than 20 local businesses in Loxton will take part in the August Art Trail, transforming East Terrace into a walking gallery. You can stroll the street, pop into shops, and discover a whole stack of artworks made by Riverlanders.

Then, on Sunday, August 10, things kick up a notch for Arts on Terrace with the town bursting to life with pop-up workshops, hands-on experiences, and artists bringing their work out into the open. Shops will be open from 10am to 3pm, and there’s a decent chance you’ll leave with a painting, a plant, or a new hobby!

If you’re more of a doer than a viewer, you’ll love the lineup of creative workshops happening on the day. You can make your own tarot cards with an artistic twist, create an illustrated butterfly shadow box, or get snapping in an interactive photography session that takes you out and about to capture landscapes, wildlife and more. There’s polymer clay jewellery-making at The Collective (a retail space for Riverland and Mallee makers), plus a collage workshop if you’re feeling cut-and-pastey. Even the kids can get involved at the local library with a bookmark-making session.

Everyone’s favourite – The Junk Art Sculpture Competition is back again for 2025, calling for anyone who reckons they can turn trash into treasure. Whether you’re a kid with a clever idea or an adult with a welder and a weekend to spare, there’s a category for you. With a prize pool of a cool $3,000 across seven different awards (including People’s Choice), there’s never been a better time to dig through the shed and get building.
