Old Favourites Meet New Thrills At Wilmington Show This September
It might be small in size, but Wilmington Show has never been short on country spirit, and its passionate band of volunteers is gearing up to do it all again this September.
Back on Sunday, September 20, the little Flinders Ranges show will bring the town to life with utes, horses, young farmers, live music, family entertainment and a few new additions.
This year, Wilmington’s 150th birthday will also make its mark, with touches of the town’s past woven through the day.
Those keen to play the part are encouraged to arrive in period costume, while memorabilia from days gone by will pop up among displays around the showgrounds.
Big Tricks Hit The Showgrounds
Things get a little more daring when Guinness World Record holder Scoot the Stunt Juggler hits the showgrounds, juggling everything from fire batons and knives to a chainsaw, sometimes while perched on a three-metre unicycle.
Scoot will perform at 10am and 2pm, then put the chainsaw aside after his morning show when kids get the chance to learn a few tricks of their own.
Magician Scott Stunz is also back roaming the grounds with his bag of tricks, while the Mt Maria Trail, Wilmington’s answer to the Royal Adelaide Show’s Yellow Brick Road, will send kids around the show collecting treasures along the way.
Rides, showbags and face painting add to the fun, while a new Agricultural Learning Centre brings animals and hands-on activities, giving kids a taste of local agriculture.
Classic Cars Join The Ute Muster
There’s no Wilmington Show without the Ute Muster, and this year something a little older is rolling in too.
A new Best Classic/Vintage Car category has been added to celebrate Wilmington’s 150th, joining favourites including Best Chick’s Ute, Best Feral, Best Paddock Basher and Best Farm Ute.
And if washing the workhorse before show day sounds like far too much effort, there’s always the Dirtiest Ute category.
A Country Show Through And Through
After making its debut in 2024, the Young Farmers Challenge is back for another round of farm-fuelled fun, while Horses in Action will showcase riders of all ages. And for those who prefer their steed on a stick, the Hobby Horse section is back too.
More than 20 stalls will fill the Market Marquee with plenty to browse while Port Augusta duo Krouty and Bruno provide the live tunes.
The Wilmington CFS will keep the barbecue sizzling for its annual fundraiser, while inside the pavilion, locals will chase those coveted blue ribbons across everything from cooking and produce to photography and handicrafts.
Throw in the Scarecrow Competition and Show Personality competitions for young and old, and Wilmington’s passionate volunteers are once again pulling together one hell of a little country show.
