From Brewery to Farm to One of Regional SA’s Most Remarkable Destinations

There are plenty of great country pubs scattered across South Australia. Then there’s Jacka Brothers Brewery.

Set against the rugged backdrop of Mt Remarkable, Jacka Brothers Brewery is a South Australian destination that offers far more than great brews.

Its latest chapter has officially begun with this month’s opening of The Bistro @ Jacka’s, a new chef-led dining experience showcasing modern Australian cuisine, native flavours and South Australian produce in a setting that’s hard to beat.

The cosy new bistro is really just another piece of an incredible story that’s nearly 150 years in the making.

The site first opened as a brewery in 1877, when brothers Joseph and William Jacka chose the foothills of Mt Remarkable for the pure water flowing from the nearby creek. Their brewery grew into a thriving business before eventually closing during the Great Depression.

The brewery later became a working farm. The original bottling shed was transformed into a shearing shed, while the historic stone buildings quietly watched generations come and go.

Jacka Brothers Brewery at Melrose has opened a new chef-led bistro, adding another reason to visit the Southern Flinders destination.

Fast forward to today and, thanks to an enormous restoration by owners Dale and Michelle Hobbs, the site has been brought back to life as one of regional South Australia’s most distinctive destinations.

The beautifully restored Taphouse now showcases Jacka Brothers’ own beers alongside craft brews, cider, gin and wines from right across regional South Australia. Order a tasting paddle and you can quite literally sip your way around the state without leaving your seat.

Outside, panoramic views stretch across the Southern Flinders Ranges. The old shearing shed has found a new life as a popular wedding venue, and the luxurious Remarkable Mountain Lodges provide the perfect base to slow down and explore the region.

Now, with The Bistro @ Jacka’s welcoming diners, there’s even more reason to make the trip.

Whether you’re planning a long lunch, a weekend away or simply looking for somewhere a little different, Jacka Brothers Brewery is proof that sometimes the best places aren’t just restored… they’re reimagined.
