SA Header cabs rock to Harvest 100

With South Australia’s grain harvest still rolling along for many farmers, header cabs right across the State have been pumping with an eclectic mix of “grower’s choice” tunes from the newly released Harvest 100 playlist.

The annual music playlist is a compilation of songs submitted by the grain producing community through Grain Producers SA (GPSA).

Unsurprisingly,  Aussie rock anthem – AC/DC’s Thunderstruck – received the most song submissions, heading the 2023 playlist in the number one spot.

Over 70 per cent of the hundreds of song submissions came from grain producers, with grain supply chain participants, other agricultural industries, media and political identities, and community members also participating.

GPSA Chief Executive Officer Brad Perry said the Harvest 100 continues to be a conversation starter out in the paddock.

“The second GPSA Harvest 100 is a diverse mix of country music, hits from decades past and some of the latest songs frequenting the airwaves that is sure to get a strong run during harvest,” he said.

“It’s pleasing to see that more than 70 per cent of songs put forward came from grain producers, meaning this truly is a harvest playlist made by growers for growers.

“The playlist acts as a reminder to grain producers about the importance of mental health and wellbeing and talking to their fellow growers during harvest.

“With our grain producers spending significant amounts of time sitting on machinery this harvest, the Harvest 100 is an initiative aimed at creating a community knowing that many other growers across the state are listening to the same playlist.”

For some, the 2023 season began earlier than ever before, due to a dry finish, and while it won’t come close to last season’s record 12 million tonne harvest, Perry said the State was on-track for an average 9 million tonne season.
