Yorke Peninsula locals are joining the national Garage Sale Trail, bringing two weekends of secondhand shopping to the region

More than 400,000 Australians will take part in the Garage Sale Trail this November, including households, schools, and community groups across the Yorke Peninsula Council area.

The event runs over two weekends – 8–9 and 15–16 November – turning streets, front yards and community spaces into a shopping lovers dream, filled with fashion, homewares, toys, plants, books and more.

Yorke Peninsula Acting Mayor Richard Carruthers said it’s about more than just bagging a bargain.

“It’s a fun and meaningful way for locals to take climate action, meet their neighbours, and make some extra cash,” Mr Carruthers said.

“Garage Sale Trail makes it easy to give your items a second life – and keep them out of landfill.”

“By selling or buying secondhand, we’re not just saving money – we’re helping reduce waste and giving our community a boost. Every item sold or swapped is one less item going to landfill, and that’s a win for our environment and our neighbourhoods.”

Participation is free, with sellers able to register online to access downloadable signs, guides, and promotional tools.

Last year, the average seller made almost $500, proving that selling secondhand is good for your back pocket as well as the planet.

“There’s something for everyone – from fashion and retro homewares to kids’ toys, tools, plants, and books,” Mr Carruthers said.

Council support makes the Garage Sale Trail free for locals to take part, helping reduce waste and embrace the circular economy.
