From Lantern Parades to Ocean Films and Whale Spotting, Victor Harbor’s Winter Whale Fest Is Back for June

If your ideal winter involves giant whales, hot donuts, ocean views and rugging up in your winter woolies, Winter Whale Fest 2026 might be right up your alley.

As the giant ocean visitors head back to the Fleurieu, Victor Harbor transforms into one big winter celebration.

A Month Of Whale Watching And Coastal Fun

The festival features more than 30 events, from whale spotting and coastal walks to live music, markets, film screenings and marine science talks.

At the heart of this year’s program is the Ngarrindjeri story of Kondoli, the whale who brought fire to the people, with cultural experiences and events woven throughout the festival.

One of the big drawcards is the Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony at Warland Reserve on June 6, officially kicking off the season as Southern Right Whales return to the Fleurieu coastline.

Families are well catered for too, with the Winter Whale Fest Expo and Artisan Market bringing together workshops, live music, market stalls and activities near the SA Whale Centre.

The much-loved lantern parade will also light up the foreshore again this year, alongside exhibitions, guided tours, outdoor adventures and live gigs across Victor Harbor and surrounding Fleurieu towns.

The Ocean Film Festival World Tour also returns as part of the lineup, bringing stunning underwater footage, ocean adventures and stories from around the globe to the festival program.

Throw in enough whale puns to sink a ship, and Victor Harbor’s winter calendar is looking anything but sleepy.

More info and the full program are available at Winter Whale Fest.
