The SA Variety Bash Returns with a 2,300-kilometre Journey Across Regional South Australia
Keep an eye on the roads because one of Australia’s most colourful convoys is hitting the road this Saturday, August 8, heading for regional South Australia.
The 2026 SA Variety Bash will travel more than 2,300 kilometres from Gawler to Port Pirie, visiting communities across the Mid North and Eyre Peninsula over eight days.
The Variety Bash is Australia’s longest-running charity motoring event and has been supporting Aussie kids for more than 40 years.
Every year, Bash entrants get their creative juices flowing, transforming ordinary cars into extraordinary creations, with plenty of costumes to match.
Along the way, they raise funds to help Variety provide grants, equipment and programs for children living with illness, disability or disadvantage, giving families access to items and opportunities they might otherwise go without.
Where is the Bash Heading?
This year’s event is called “Pivot to Pirie” after organisers were forced to change the original interstate route due to flooding. Instead, entrants will spend eight days travelling across South Australia, stopping in towns including Booborowie, Kimba, Wirrulla, Streaky Bay, Elliston, Wudinna, Coffin Bay, Port Lincoln, Arno Bay, Cleve and Whyalla before crossing the finish line in Port Pirie on August 15.
If the Bash is passing through your town, it’s worth wandering down for a look. It’s not every day that you get hundreds of brightly decorated cars rolling through regional South Australia.
