Gleaming new machinery, the latest agricultural technology and enough free pens to stock the office… it’s Eyre Peninsula Field Days time
For three days, from August 11 to 13, Cleve basically builds the country version of a shopping centre – but with carparks full of utes, shops that sell tractors, and a weird trend that sees most people head home with a giant stick of mettwurst.
This year the Eyre Peninsula Field Days is celebrating an impressive 50 years of bringing agriculture, innovation and the community together. Around 10,000 visitors are expected to pour through the gates to check out the wares of more than 400 exhibitors from across the country.
Field Days president Phill Elleway said reaching the half-century milestone reflected the community spirit, dedicated volunteers and ongoing support from exhibitors that had built the event over five decades.
“Here on the Eyre Peninsula we take real pride in the quality of what we grow and produce,” he said.
“The expertise, technology, and services (of exhibitors) help local farmers — and those further afield — continue to build on that reputation.”
This year’s event also introduces a brand-new attraction, Made on Eyre — a marquee celebrating the region’s talented makers, growers and producers. Visitors can browse everything from artisan food, wine and coffee to handcrafted jewellery, homewares and local treats, with businesses including Boston Bay Wines, Wildflour Bar and Dessert, Noble and Frank, and several other Eyre Peninsula businesses all under one roof.
The revamped Lifestyle section promises plenty to explore too, with clothing, crafts, garden products, gourmet food, education providers and more.
And for something completely different, don’t miss Artyculture. One of the field days’ most-loved attractions, it sees competitors transform everything from hay bale twine and dog food bags to cardboard, food wrappers and bits of shed junk into wearable fashion. It’s creative, colourful and loads of fun.
