Six-day classic rally will travel from Quorn to Victor Harbor, showcasing regional SA along the way
More than 100 historic rally cars will tackle some of South Australia’s most spectacular landscapes this spring when the inaugural Flinders to Fleurieu Rally gets underway.
The six-day rally will travel from Quorn in the Flinders Ranges to Victor Harbor, passing through a string of regional South Australian towns and showcasing some of the state’s most spectacular landscapes along the way.
Beginning on Sunday, September 20, the event welcomes classic two-wheel and four-wheel-drive rally cars to compete across six days of challenging stages while celebrating the communities that host them. One of the major public viewing opportunities will be in Clare, where competitors will arrive on Wednesday, September 23, assembling at the Clare Oval for a twilight display before departing at 8.30am on Thursday, September 24 for the final leg towards Victor Harbor.
Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor Allan Aughey OAM said the council was proud to be one of the host communities for the inaugural rally.
“The event will deliver a welcome boost to local businesses,” Mayor Aughey said
Beyond the competition, organisers hope the rally will become a showcase of regional South Australia, combining challenging gravel roads with local hospitality, community engagement and support for businesses along the route.
The event has also been selected as one of four rallies making up the newly created Mulligan Memorial Cup, a Trans-Tasman challenge linking premier classic rally events across Australia and New Zealand.
The cup honours legendary rally identity Ross Mulligan and includes Australia’s Bega Valley Rally, South Australia’s Flinders to Fleurieu Rally, and New Zealand’s Silver Fern Rally and Otago Rally.
Organisers say their vision is to create an unforgettable motorsport experience that celebrates South Australia’s diverse landscapes while fostering community spirit and encouraging motorsport enthusiasts to explore the regions.
With classic rally cars, iconic country roads and six days of competition, the inaugural Flinders to Fleurieu Rally is shaping up to become a welcome new addition to South Australia’s motorsport calendar.
