Nharangga Aboriginal Cultural Tours share rich heritage of Yorke Peninsula
Nharangga Aboriginal Cultural Tours, set on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula, emerged as a passion project by owner Shane Warrior. The idea flourished with the support and encouragement of Cathy Glazbrook, a seasoned traveller now working in the tourism industry.
Over the years, she often fielded inquiries about a significant Aboriginal site near Minlaton that needed attention and some TLC. This led to the inaugural Nharangga Cultural Day which marked the beginning of their journey. Cathy, along with others, successfully persuaded Shane to step into the role of tour guide, a decision that proved to be spot-on. Described by Cathy as a natural and passionate teacher, Shane effortlessly tailors tours to suit all ages and groups. Participants find themselves captivated as Shane, who speaks from the heart, guides them through the intricacies of Nharangga culture.
Fast forward three years from that first tour, and Shane, alongside Cathy, has established Nharangga Aboriginal Cultural Tours. Supported by the SA Tourism Commission and the local tourism board, their dream has come to life. Shane, guided by his Elders, considers the accumulated wisdom of millennia a great privilege, sharing it respectfully to honour his Elders, family, and ancient heritage.
Now, the opportunity awaits for visitors to travel through time and discover the age-old wisdom and traditions of the Nharangga people, cultivated over tens of thousands of years on their Country. The primary aim is to offer unforgettable experiences that foster understanding and appreciation.
Nharangga Banggara, spanning from Broughton River to the north, the Hummocks and Wakefield River, and down to Dhilba Guuranda – Innes National Park in the south, sets the stage for these cultural experiences.
Whether you’re mastering the art of throwing a wadna (boomerang) or devouring a campfire lunch, Nharangga Aboriginal Cultural Tours tailors cultural experiences for every visitor to the Yorke Peninsula.
Tours are conducted with the utmost respect for the land, culture, and people, preserving and sharing the richness of cultural heritage for generations to come. And it’s not just an educational experience but also an opportunity for cultural growth, making it the perfect activity for people of all ages and groups.
