South Australian Country Pubs Have Always Brought Communities Together. This August, Support Yours
For a lot of South Australian towns, the local pub was one of the very first buildings to go up. It wasn’t only a place to grab a drink. It was the meeting room, the dining room, the accommodation, the post office, the courtroom, the celebration venue, and home to plenty of stories over the years.
Today, not much has changed.
Country pubs are still where communities gather. They’re where grand final wins are celebrated, birthdays are toasted, committee meetings go way longer than anyone planned, meat raffles are won, and someone always seems to solve the world’s problems from the front bar.
The only difference is many country pubs need our support more than ever.
That’s the thinking behind SA Cheers Together, a statewide campaign encouraging South Australians to reconnect at their local pub throughout August.
More Than A Beer
You don’t need a beer in your hand to support your local.
Sure, a frothy on a Friday afternoon sounds pretty good to me. But if that’s not your thing, grab a parmi, catch up over lunch, order a lemonade, tackle the trivia night or simply enjoy catching up with friends. The best thing about the local pub has never been what’s in your glass. It’s the people sitting around you.
To help bring people together, participating venues will be running meal specials, trivia nights, raffles, community tables and other events throughout August.
Some Of Our Oldest South Australian Pubs Are Joining In
There are more than 100 South Australian pubs taking part, from tiny country locals to historic hotels that have been welcoming travellers for generations. Places like the Port Broughton Hotel and the Overland Corner Hotel, are a reminder that these pubs have always been more than somewhere to grab a drink. They’ve been meeting places, milestones and the heart of their communities.
