Fleeces will fly at Curramulka Speed Shear
A cash prize of $5000 is up for grabs as some of the best shearers in the country flock to Curramulka on the Yorke Peninsula for “Curry Speed Shear” on Saturday March 23.
With backing from major sponsor Hanson Heidelberg Cement Group and a swag of other local supporters, the annual event is looking to be a thrill-ride to see who clocks in with the fastest fleece.
Shearing is no longer seen as a demanding and arduous farm job, it’s now being recognised as an elite sporting pursuit.
Last year’s Curry Speed Shear record sits at 23.10 seconds, claimed by Tiare Tipu in an unbelievable display of shearing talent that lined his pockets with prize money.
If you’re ready to test your talents with the shears, there are divisions in Open, Intermediate, Women’s and Veteran categories.
The rest of us will sit back and enjoy the “shear delight’ of a day out on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula. And with kids activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, plus a dedicated “kids shearing station”, the Curry Speed Shear promises the perfect day out for the whole family.
