Revving up for thrills as mowers hit the track
Sunday, March 10 will see the picturesque town of Cape Jervis transform into a battleground for souped-up lawnmower action, with revved-up Rovers and voracious Victas going head to head for the title of champion racer. Following this, another mad mowing event at Brinkworth on April 13 including the Brinkworth Country Fair on the same day, promises a jam-packed weekend for the little mid-north town.
Lawn mower racing dates back to the ’70’s. What started as a friendly competition among neighbours looking to put their lawnmowers to the test has grown into a globally recognised sport with leagues and championships. Today, mower racing events attract enthusiasts and spectators, drawn to the thrill of watching the humble lawnmower tearing up the track.
Carving it up at Cape Jervis
Kicking off the high-speed racing frenzy is the Cape Jervis Mower Races, a day filled with “on-track lawn mower racing action” for spectators of all ages. Gates open at 9am, with races commencing at 11am. And for as little as a gold coin donation, you’re set for a day of cutting-edge entertainment.
From novice racers to seasoned pros riding powerful 450cc machines, you can expect a thrilling showcase of speed and skill. But it’s not just about the races – there’s plenty of entertainment for the whole family, including a jumpy castle and face painting for the kids. Food options are abundant, with an array of delicious treats available, and the event is also fully licensed. There’s ample free onsite parking and visitors can make a weekend of it and book into one of many accommodation options in and around Cape Jervis.
Battle of the Blades at Brinkworth
The excitement continues as Brinkworth hosts its mower races in April at the town oval. Mowers of all shapes and sizes will converge for a battle like no other for this beloved annual event. Alongside the racing action, you can enjoy market stalls, food vans offering mouth-watering delights, and activities to keep the fun going all day long. The Brinkworth Bowling Club will be serving up cold drinks from a fully licensed bar, while the Brinkworth Primary and Early Childhood Centre will tantalise your taste buds with its fantastic food tent.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there with the Brinkworth Country Fair being held on the same day. There’ll be live music by ‘Outback Overdrive’, James’s Magic travelling show, classic cars on display, numerous stalls offering unique goods, and a variety of food and coffee vans, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
The fair will be held at the RV Park with a free shuttle bus service, provided by the Brinkworth Progress Association, transporting visitors between the town’s Mower Races and Country Fair.
