New NextGen Mixer Aims To Build Connections And Support Future Leaders In South Australia’s Livestock Industry
Who will be farming South Australia in 20 years?
It’s a question the livestock industry is taking seriously, with a new event designed to support the next generation of producers making its debut at LambEx 2026.
For the first time, Livestock SA will host a free NextGen Producers Mixer, bringing together young and emerging sheep, cattle and goat producers from across the state to connect with industry leaders and each other.
The event will be held in Adelaide during LambEx 2026 which is Australia’s largest sheep industry conference. It aims to give young producers the chance to build networks, share experiences and learn from others working in the industry.
Building The Next Generation at LambEx 2026
Livestock SA Chair Gillian Fennell said supporting young producers was critical to the long-term future of South Australia’s livestock sector.
“This is about creating space for the next generation to build networks, share experiences and feel connected to their industry,” she said.
“By making this event free and highly accessible, we’re ensuring young producers, regardless of where they are in their journey, have the opportunity to be part of the conversation.”
Hosted in partnership with Tara Farms and William Buck, the mixer will feature an informal Q&A with the Tara Farms team, exploring topics including building an industry profile, making connections and navigating the opportunities and challenges facing young producers.
More Than Just Networking
As Australia’s largest sheep industry conference, LambEx brings together producers, researchers and industry leaders from across the country to discuss the future of the red meat and wool industries.
The NextGen Producers Mixer forms part of Livestock SA’s broader presence at the event, with the organisation using LambEx to engage with producers on key issues including biosecurity, market access, workforce and industry sustainability.
South Australia’s red meat and wool industries contribute around $4.49 billion to the state’s economy each year and support more than 21,000 jobs, highlighting the importance of investing in the next generation of producers.
Whether attendees are returning to the family farm, starting their own enterprise or simply looking to expand their network, the event is designed to help build relationships that continue long after LambEx wraps up.
