Outback favourites bring signature Flinders Food Co flavours to the heart of Clare

Flinders Food Co has officially announced a takeover of Seed, with the much-loved Hawker-based team bringing their trademark outback flavour to Clare’s Main Street.

That’s some pretty exciting news for the Clare Valley – especially for anyone who loves good food and country hospitality.

After a rollercoaster few years for the rooftop venue in the heart of Clare, there’s now a sense of genuine excitement in the air. Because if there’s one thing Louise and Doogal Hannagan know how to do, it’s create a food hub that feels like home.

The husband-and-wife duo behind the wildly popular Flinders Food Co are preparing to create a “mirror” of their Hawker business, with the doors set to open mid January.

Relocating their young family to the Clare Valley while the new venue gets on its feet, Dougall will be on the grill while Louise takes on front of house and some barista training. You may even catch her pouring a latte with a baby on her hip! “There’s definitely an emphasis on being a family-friendly venue,” she said. “Kids are safe and always welcome.”

She’s also quick to reassure Flinders fans that it’ll be business as usual in Hawker – and the FFC family will be back every second Friday for “Flinders Social”.

What Clare Can Expect

Flinders Food Co began as a bold idea to bring café culture to the outback, folding native flavours, local produce and regional stories into every plate.
It worked spectacularly, and now Clare is getting a taste.

“We love Clare,” Louise. “We really noticed the area was lacking somewhere consistent for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Hopefully Flinders Food Co will help fill that void, as well as boosting tourism and encouraging visitors to linger longer in the Clare Valley, before making their way up to the Flinders.”

The Flinders Food Co menu changes with the seasons, but a few favourites tend to flow throughout the year. Among the stand-outs are the native muesli (which can also be purchased in the online store), the FFC chicken burger, and the famous Flinders Big Breakfast loaded with SA free-range eggs, local smoked bacon, housemade beans, roasted mushroom and chorizo.

“If it’s not made by us, it’s sourced from someone local,” Louise says.
It’s a philosophy that has shaped their entire business.

They look forward to employing a team of new staff in Clare, as well as linking with nearby high schools to continue the school-based apprentice program they’ve implemented in the Flinders.

“Food is a real culture in Australia. There’s a great career path in living out the hospitality dream,” Louise said.

“Hospo” on the Horizon

Because running a café, raising two kids and moving towns isn’t quite enough… Louise and Doogal also have another venture brewing.
“Hospo”, their hospitality consulting business, is designed to support regional operators.

Its ethos?
“Any mistake you could possibly make – I’ve made it.” – A refreshing and very regional take on business coaching.
