Fleurieu Food Festival is one of those annual events that sells itself.
Penty of the best foodie experiences quietly fill every year, and unless someone tells you about them, you’ll probably never know you could spend a winter afternoon making your own sausages, mastering mozzarella or sipping mulled wine. So… consider this your heads-up.
Running throughout August, the month-long festival features more than 120 food, wine and farm experiences across the Fleurieu Peninsula. And while there are plenty of incredible long lunches, cellar doors and paddock-to-plate experiences, it’s some of the smaller, hands-on events that caught our eye.
If gourmet sausages are your thing, you can learn how to make your own. If fresh mozzarella sounds more your style, there’s a workshop for that too.
You can master gnocchi from scratch, learn the secrets behind the perfect mulled wine, enjoy a pizza and wine night in Victor Harbor or settle in for Swiss-style cheese fondue by the water at Goolwa.
Eat, Drink And Explore
Feeling adventurous? Never Never Distilling’s OysterPalooza lets you wash down fresh South Australian oysters with Oyster Shell Gin (but only if you’re quick), while beer lovers can tackle brewery food pairings and steak fans can experience a one-day-only New York steakhouse popping up in Aldinga.
Then there’s long lunches, farm walks, botanical brunches, farmers markets and one of the festival’s standout events, The Big Pan Gathering at historic Glenbarr Homestead, where giant paella, local wines, live music and country hospitality all come together for one memorable afternoon.
