Discover everything from retro gems to rustic wonders in one of Whyalla’s most unique stores
With the motto “something old, something new, and something fabulous just for you,” Cindy Venning’s store, Lila May, located on Whyalla’s Norrie Avenue, is a little shop of treasures filled with antiques, upcycled finds, and unique homewares.
Named after her grandmother, the building was once home to Cindy’s grandfather and father’s business, where they sold second-hand items before moving into furniture retail. Today, Cindy is the third generation to fill the space with her love for beautiful, timeless pieces and homewares.
Growing up around her family’s furniture store, Cindy developed a sharp eye for quality antiques and one-of-a-kind finds. So when the building became available back in 2017, she jumped at the chance to open the homewares store she’d always imagined – one that’s as eclectic as it is welcoming. From vintage and retro to rustic and revamped, Lila May is jam packed with items to suit many tastes.
“I’m pretty fussy,” Cindy laughs, “but I love finding pieces that are unique. I want people to see things here they won’t find anywhere else.”
With Cindy’s newly stocked Christmas décor and an ever-changing mix of vintage, retro, and rustic treasures, it’s not just locals who love to fossick through her displays with tourists often popping in, drawn by the one-of-a-kind finds. It is fast becoming a go-to destination for those searching original homewares, thoughtful gifts, or just a little inspiration.
In the future, Cindy dreams of offering craft lessons, sharing her skills with others and adding another layer to her business.
For now, though, you’ll find her in-store, Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, ready to help you find a perfect Christmas gift or a special piece to make your house a home.
