A Flanno and a Fiver, a Simple Way to Make a Big Impact

The flanno, that cosy flannelette shirt Aussies love, is getting a new purpose – supporting our farmers when they need it most. The “Flanno for a Farmer” cause is encouraging everyone to throw on their favourite flanno and chip in five bucks to help those who work day in and day out to keep our nation fed. The message is clear – while our farmers are always there for us, now it’s our turn to be there for them.

Life on the land can be tough—droughts, floods, fires, and plagues are just some of the challenges farmers face. Even though they’re a tough lot, these disasters are hitting harder and more often, pushing many to the edge. A shocking statistic from 2021 shows that every 10 days, we lose a farmer to suicide—a rate that’s 59% higher than in other professions – a heartbreaking reality that can’t be ignored.

That’s where the “Flanno for a Farmer” campaign comes in. Every dollar raised will go straight to Farm Angels, an organisation that’s all about supporting farmers through the ups and downs of farming life. Farm Angels provide financial help, food hampers, care packs, and mental health support to thousands of farmers across more than 1,300 communities in Australia. Their goal is to make sure our farmers don’t have to face these tough times alone.

The campaign is aiming to get 1 million Aussies to wear a flanno and donate a fiver by August 23. It’s an easy way to show our farmers that we’ve got their backs. The money raised will help Farm Angels continue their amazing work, giving personalised support to farming families so they can stay on their land and keep their communities thriving.
