New Family Attractions Join Country Show Favourites at the Crystal Brook Show
For 147 years, the Crystal Brook Show has been doing what country shows do best, bringing the community together for a day of good old-fashioned country fun.
This year, the dedicated show committee is mixing things up with a brand-new Agricultural Learning Centre, the return of Dinkum Dinosaurs with an all-new show and a packed entertainment line-up, all alongside the country show favourites people return for year after year.
New Attractions Take Centre Stage
Leading the new additions this year is the Agricultural Learning Centre, giving families the chance to roll up their sleeves and learn more about agriculture through a range of interactive activities. You and your little ones can have a go at milling flour, making porridge, exploring sensory play and getting a hands-on taste of life on the land, while a traditional blade shearing demonstration will showcase how sheep were shorn before mechanisation.
Returning by popular demand, Dinkum Dinosaurs is back with an all-new show, bringing life-sized prehistoric creatures to the showgrounds and adding a prehistoric twist to this year’s entertainment line-up.
Fat Farmers co-founder Ben Wundersitz will officially open the Crystal Brook Show before putting competitors through their paces in the Fat Farmers Challenge. The Fat Farmers team will also be on site throughout the day with their health truck, offering free health checks for visitors.
Show-goers will also be able to explore Kemmy’s Red Brick Trail, with interactive activities spread throughout the grounds, adding another fun way for families to experience everything the show has to offer. Named after the show’s mascot tractor, Kemmy, who honours a long-serving Crystal Brook Show volunteer, families can pre-purchase a Kemmy’s Red Brick Trail Bag when buying tickets online.
Country Show Favourites Return
While there’s plenty that’s new, the Crystal Brook Show hasn’t forgotten the traditions that have kept people coming back for generations.
Crowd favourites including the sheep dog displays, ute muster, vintage vehicles, tractor rides and the ever-popular petting zoo all return, offering visitors a true taste of country life.
Families will also find plenty to keep the kids entertained, with a mechanical bull, Bumbles the Clown, giant bubbles and plenty of hands-on fun happening throughout the day. Live music from Virjilla Joyce and JR Acoustic will provide the soundtrack from morning through to the evening.
Beyond the entertainment, visitors can wander through the pavilions to admire more than 2,000 entries across local produce, cooking, crafts, photography, flowers and livestock competitions, showcasing the talent and pride of the local community.
More Reasons To Get Involved
It’s not just the entertainment that’s received a refresh this year, with several competition sections updated to encourage more entries and wider community participation.
Among the biggest changes is the largest Led Steer prize pool in the show’s 147-year history, worth more than $8,000 while the Grain and Fodder section returns with a prize pool five times larger than last year.
The Art section now includes an all-abilities category and photographers can enter a new smartphone category, with images displayed digitally in the pavilion.
Community groups are also being encouraged to get involved through the Regional Club Lamb Challenge, offering a $150 prize for clubs or community groups entering a pen of three lambs.
Bringing Communities Together
This year’s show is a Connecting Communities event sponsored by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions through the Family and Business Support Program as part of the $97 million Drought Support Package. Additional funding has allowed the Committee to expand the program and create even more opportunities for people of all ages to come together and celebrate regional life.
After 147 years, the Crystal Brook Show has well and truly earned its place on the regional calendar, and this year’s mix of new attractions and country show traditions shows exactly why people keep coming back.
