Celebrate 30 Years of Camel Racing at Marree
Non-stop camel racing action will see the best of the beasts belt it out for the coveted “Marree Australian Camel Cup” on Saturday July 6.
Watch the thrills and spills as these magnificent spitting humpbacks kick up their hooves to come out on top while celebrating the area’s Afghan heritage.
You’ll be able to meet Afghan descendants, chow down on some delicious Afghan food and see a photo and memorabilia exhibition. It’s a chance to learn a bit about the history of the area and the vital role Afghan cameleers played in the outback.
But the camels aren’t the only ones getting their race on. Don’t miss the hilarious donkey races, where riders jump on wild donkeys in an attempt to be the fastest ass in the outback.
There’s a stack of other fun to be had too. The kids can get their face painted and take part in the lolly toss, while the adults can enjoy live music and open bar facilities. Plus, you can test your skills at the hole-in-one competition or have a go at a tug-of-war!
There’ll be bookies shouting the odds and plenty of food to keep your belly full thanks to Variety SA. It’s an Aussie carnival atmosphere, with a dose of outback hospitality thrown in for good measure.
So, if you’re looking for a race meet with a difference, pack your swag and head to Marree for the 30th Anniversary Camel Cup. It’s a weekend you won’t forget!
