The much-anticipated Whyalla Foreshore Water Park and Community Plaza project has taken a leap forward, advancing to the next phase in the Federal Government funding process.
This crucial development brings this stunning vision for Whyalla’s waterfront a step closer.
Council invites the community to share their stories and memories
Mayor Phill Stone emphasised the importance of external funding and sees the project’s progression as a significant milestone. To infuse the development with a local touch, the Council encourages residents to share their memories of the foreshore, creating a connection between the community and the project.
Community members will have the opportunity to share their stories in various ways, including a marquee set up at the Visitor Information Centre pod on January 3-5 and 8-10, where people can drop in and have a chat with staff members. Additionally, feedback is welcomed through the council website, phone, or email [email protected]. These stories will then be consolidated, with a number of them included on furniture, architecture, boardwalks, and other aspects of the foreshore development, ensuring it captures Whyalla’s history and essence.
Mayor Stone stated, “It’s proven that storytelling builds community connection, so collecting the stories of our community and weaving them into the foreshore plaza will create a level of meaning that makes it a far more engaging space.”
The detailed designs showcase numerous water-play features, outdoor adventure play spaces, a wave lawn, a scooter track, and sheltered seating. The design aims to reflect the unique character of Whyalla while ensuring practicality and sustainability.
Mayor Stone reassured the community that these designs are still conceptual until funding is secured. The Council will provide regular updates on the project and the outcomes of the final funding round. Stay tuned for more updates from the council and how the community can contribute to bringing this exciting project to life.
