Greater SA

Whether you’re looking for a free family-friendly event or want to to wine, dine and dance the June long-weekend away, South Australia is serving up the goods.

McLaren Vale Double Winery Day Dance

It’s a long weekend danceathon at McLaren Vale, but you’ll have to get in quick to secure your tickets. The Day Dance Winery Festival is held over two days, starting with the Lil’ Day Dance at Simon Hackett Winery. Release your inner teenage dirtbag and kickstart the weekend with a 2000’s dance party. Bust it out to some old favourites from Good Charlotte, Nickleback, Smash Mouth, Snoop Dog and all of the turn of the century legends.

Sunday is the main event dance day, with a double winery dance fest between Simon Hackett and Paxton Wines. The line up of bangers has something for everyone. Paxton will pump out a bit of Texas Hold’em for country music fans Sunday morning before a wholesome house party from noon, while Simon Hackett lines up three sets of various hits throughout the day.

There are busses from Adelaide, undercover areas in case of rain and plenty of winter warmer food and drinks to replenish your dancing legs.

Trains, Roasts and Winter Stews in the Clare Valley

There’s loads happening in the Clare Valley over the long weekend.
Celebrate the long weekend with Friday Night Drinks at Clare Valley Wine Food and Tourism Centre. Try some “Winter Warmers” with various drops of wine, stout and fortified at happy hour prices.
Why not make it a “progressive” tour of Clare on Friday night. Just up the road, six-times Golden Guitar winner, Amber Lawrence will be on the deck at Greg Cooley Wines, accompanied by Moi An Viet Street Food.  And in the heart of Clare, Bar 1871 will be dishing up Winter Soulful Stews paired with local vino, Clare Valley brews and SA gin.

After more music and wine at Knappstein and Greg Cooley Wines on Saturday, it’s all about the little ones on Sunday. Clare Valley Model Engineers will be running miniature train rides in Melrose Park from 10.30am. The popular Clare Show Markets will also be great family fun. There’ll be plenty of food there, or you can change the pace and call into the picturesque Eldredge Wines for a Wintery Sunday roast, with an open fire, wine and music.

Riverland ramps up for a long-weekend of fun

Riverlanders will also be spoilt for choice over the long weekend, with everything from sheep running through streets to a festival of smokey meats.

Kicking off early on June 5 and running through to Sunday, is the Running of the Sheep and Barmera Sheep Dog Trial. Watch on as man’s best friend shows some highly trained skills and don’t miss the spectacle of sheep running through Barmera’s Main Street at 10am on Saturday.

The Cobby Riverland Music Festival will showcase a range of live music performances across a number of Riverland venues, and the Historic Overland Corner Hotel will serve up a triple treat of Music and Drag, Bingo and Karaoke.
Out on the chilly waters of the Murray, between Morgan and Berri, the famous Riverland Paddling Marathon will be on for three days across the weekend. The event, which has been running since 1988, is more than just a marathon, it’s a festival of paddling, hosted by the Marathon Canoe Club of SA.
Other events across the long weekend include live music and American Style BBQ at Woolshed Brewery and on Saturday and Sunday, a flavourful 2-day festival of smokey meats, tasty beverages, market stalls and family fun on the foreshore at Lake Bonney with Smoke on the Water. But you’ll need to hurry as there’s only a handful of tickets left.
