Kickstart your financial career with William Buck’s Regional Scholarship
If you’re a regional South Australian student with dreams of studying commerce, accounting or business, leading accounting and advisory firm, William Buck, has launched a new Regional Commerce Scholarship, providing a wealth of opportunities for one lucky recipient.
With a history spanning 125 years and a strong presence in regional South Australia, the Adelaide based accounting firm is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders, particularly those from country areas.
The scholarship, which will be offered annually, will provide $15,000 in financial support across three years to help a regional student complete their first undergraduate South Australian university degree. In addition, a William Buck employee who started as a graduate will provide ongoing mentorship throughout the scholarship, offering guidance and career support.
During the second year of study, the student will spend four weeks working at William Buck Adelaide, gaining paid, hands-on experience in the finance world, with potential employment at the scholarship’s completion.
Managing Partner, Adrian Chugg, said the company felt it was important to give back to the communities that have supported them over the years.
“With one-third of William Buck’s Adelaide partners from country South Australia, and a large proportion of our clients from regional SA, the Regional Commerce Scholarship is one of the ways we can give back to the communities that have supported us,” he said.
Sam’s journey, from country graduate to company Partner
Sam Nicholls is one of the many country graduates to have risen through the ranks at William Buck. A proud country girl who grew up in the Mid North, Sam has become a valued leader within the firm, bringing a wealth of experience to the Corporate Finance division.
“When I first started, the amount of people from the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula that were clients, was a huge surprise to me but showed that William Buck has a strong agriculture mindset,” she said.
She said the company values promotion from within and fosters employee growth. “I was promoted to Principal whilst I was on maternity leave with my second son Tommy. I was then promoted to Partner when I was on maternity leave with my third son Lachy. William Buck has faith in employees and sees that a career is a journey, not a sprint.”
To apply for the Regional Scholarship, you’ll need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, currently living in regional SA, and either in your final year of school or already enrolled in a commerce-related degree. You’ll also need to complete a short application form, write a brief statement on why you’re applying, and submit a one-page CV.
The deadline to apply is January 2, 2025, so make sure you get your application in as this could be your chance to kickstart a career in accounting or finance with the support you need to succeed.
