Escape to South Australia’s stunning Yorke Peninsula this October, for a 7-night artists’ retreat designed to awaken your creativity in an inspiring setting for artistic growth.
Hosted by award-winning tour operator, Lesley Whyte, at the historic Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat in Warooka, this getaway offers a blend of hands-on workshops, stunning coastal scenery, and a welcoming artistic community.
Throughout the week, four diverse workshops will be led by local artists, each inspired by the natural beauty of the Yorke Peninsula.
Capture Seascapes in Pastels
Capture the ocean’s energy using pastels to depict dynamic waves and coastal vistas. Renowned surf artists and the owner/curator at Marion Bay’s Studio Surf Gallery, Jason Swales, will share expert techniques and insights into capturing the essence of a moment in time through pastel.
Bring your Waves to Life
Pastel seascapes will then be brilliantly transformed into a resin-on-wood masterpiece, adding depth and gloss, with expert guidance from Yorke Peninsula artist, Lianne Cook. Drawing deep inspiration from the region’s stark and breathtaking landscapes, Cook, a Fine Arts graduate, will showcase her love of colour, texture and diverse techniques.
Pen & Ink Landscapes with Handcrafted Brushes
Explore the textures of local flora and landscapes, crafting your own brushes from natural materials to enhance your ink and watercolour sketches. Multi-award-winning Artist, Rachelle Plazeriano, will guide artists with her colourful style, her love for the environment around her and her passion for the therapeutic benefits of creation.
Appliqué A Textured Masterpiece
Fashion designer, Kylie Borg, will host the fourth workshop, bringing pen and ink designs to life with fabric and thread, creating tactile art pieces that echo the region’s landscapes.

This retreat is more than making art, it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative environment and connect with the stunning surroundings of the Yorke Peninsula. Whether you’re looking to explore new mediums, expand your portfolio, or simply enjoy a week dedicated to creativity and relaxation, this retreat is tailored to you.
Your home for the week is in the quaint rural town of Warooka. Here you’ll spend time at Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat, a century-old stone home with views stretching over rural landscapes to the sea. Comfortable rooms and shared creative spaces will be provided at both Ballara and the Warooka Hotel, with all meals provided from locally sourced ingredients. Round-trip transfers from the Adelaide Airport to the Yorke Peninsula are also included, as well as specialised art materials.
From beginner to advanced, everyone is welcome, but spaces are limited.
