Get ready to dive into the deliciousness of Oyster Fest 2023. Ceduna Foreshore is the place to be on October long-weekend, serving up three decades of tradition, with a side of mouthwatering food and live entertainment. It’ll be a shellebration for the senses!
Ceduna, also known as the Oyster Capital of Australia hosts one of the nations largest oyster festivals on the beautiful shores of Murat Bay, and whether you find the popular shellfish a delicacy or not, there’s literally something for everyone – you could even say “the world is your oyster”!
Fun for the whole family, the two-day event kicks off on Saturday September 30, with a Move Ceduna walk from the head of the Jetty at 8am. Once you’ve worked up a hunger for some fun, food and festivities, the traditional Oysterfest Parade will roll through the Main Street, with cash prizes of up to $500 for those who dare to add flair to the big ticket event.
At midday, all eyes will be on the sky, as aeroabatic daredevil, Chris Sperou takes to the sky in a not-to-be missed Sky Blazers stunt show. At the age of 84, the sky still has no limits for the incredible Ceduna-born stunt pilot, who’ll put on a spectacular show with the team from Sky Blazers.
A carnival area for the kids, sponsored by Ceduna Aboriginal Corp will host the team from Splodge & Groove, providing games & activities for the kids. And with Old MacDonald’s Animal Farm, Xtreme Kites and Paddles, a sandcastle comp, piping hot Popcorn, Fairy Floss, glitter tattoos and showbags, Oyster Fest is a win-win for everyone.
For those who love a challenge, you could even walk away with some cash, by fronting up to the foreshore to swiftly swallow a dozen oysters blindfolded, fillet a fillet a fish faster than Rex Hunt, or test your endurance by raising a stein of beer or carton of iconic SA iced coffee, without spilling a drop.
There’s a bunch of musicians providing live entertainment, including spectacular guitar work, sweet harmonies & all over good vibes from SJD trio, everyone’s favourite local artist, Bugi Weaver and music through the decades from The Bock Shepherd Experience, Port Lincoln,
For the foodies, welcome to heaven! Local Oyster gatherers are saving the best of the best for the fest, joining forces to highlight the main attraction, raw or cooked to your liking.
Other mouthwatering options include Salt & Pepper Squid, Garlic Prawns by local Chef, Anna Toumbas, Oranaise returns to supply fresh paella, cooked right before your eyes, as well as Beyond India, Great Southern Oysters Asian Takeaway, Flip Bites, Greek Ladies, Pizza4Shore, Smokey Undercuts, Deep Fried Sweet Treats and Natura’s Icecreamery.
Along with being Oysterfest’s Event Partner, Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel will be bringing you some personalised Oysterfest Craft Beer, along with your favourite refreshments, and they’ll also be teaming up with Scott Rayson to put offer tastings at Ceduna Wine Bar.
West Coast Distillers will be bringing the gin and cocktails. What more could one want? Football maybe? The AFL grand final will be available to watch at Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel and Ceduna Sailing Club.
Thermomix lovers will be justifiably excited to catch an on-stage cooking demo from the one and only South Aussie Skinnymixer, Nikalene Riddle.
If you thought the one thing this event had forgotten was your pooch, think again. Homemade treats for the furry family members will also be available from Pup Hub Cafe. There are so many exciting layers to this well-planned event.
Oyster Fest 2023 will go out with a bang on Sunday evening, with a tribute to the Bon Scott era by headline act, Bon Fire, and a fireworks display over the stunning Murat Bay.
