Got a Speed Demon in Your Team? Cash and bragging rights up for grabs at the AFL Gather Round Sprint
Does your footy club have a midfielder quicker than a kelpie chasing a ute? Now’s the time to put them to the test! AFL Gather Round is calling on speed demons from footy clubs right across the country to take part in the first-ever Gather Round Sprint. Bragging rights and some handy cash prizes are up for the taking.
We’re talking a 70-metre dash at the brand-new Barossa Park “Live Site” in Lyndoch, with over $30,000 in prize money up for grabs. The fastest male and female open runners will take home $5,000—and their club will score another $5,000. Junior players can get on board too, with $1,000 each for winners and their clubs.
If you’ve got a young gun who leaves defenders in the dust or an old fella who reckons he “still has the legs”, registrations are free and open until April 7, but spots are limited, so don’t muck around.
The Barossa Park Live Site is a free fan zone just outside the main ground, with DJ’s, food vendors, AFL Play interactive footy zone and Gather Round matches live on the big screen. The Gather Round Sprint will be called by Stawell Gift commentator, Ollie Wurm.
Community footy speedsters can register right here.
