Book Your Front-Row Seat to the Galaxy at Rawnsley Park
Rawnsley Park Station in the stunning Flinders Ranges has just announced a series of stargazing nights during the October school holidays that will be nothing short of stellar!
Karl, the star guru from Stellar Science, will be your guide for an unforgettable evening of astronomy as you gaze through a giant ten-inch telescope bringing the cosmos into your lap.
For $60, you get a solid hour under the Southern Skies. Karl will kick things off with a quick how-to on handling the telescope, then, you’ll start with some easy-to-find objects like globular clusters and maybe a nebula or two. As your eyes adjust, and your confidence grows, you’ll move on to more impressive sights. Throughout, Karl will enlighten you with tales of constellations and the science behind what you’re seeing.
But if you’re willing to fork out an extra ten bucks (and who isn’t for an experience like this?), you’ll get a 90-minute session instead. It’s pretty much the same celestial tour, but you’ll also get a souvenir—a photo of yourself with the Milky Way as your backdrop, plus digital images of everything you saw on the night. Because if you don’t post it on social media, did it even happen?
Finally, for the passionate stargazing seekers, there’s the $100 package. This one’s not just about the night sky—you get a double feature. After the 90-minute evening session, you’ll be back at it early the next morning, an hour before dawn, to catch the planets as they make their grand entrance. You’ll be able to soak in the sights of our cosmic neighbours including Saturn’s rings and Jupiter’s moons. You’ll also get a photo under the Milky Way, and all the digital images to prove you were there.
So, whether you’re after a quick stargazing fix or the full celestial experience, Rawnsley Park Station has got you covered. Make sure to book ahead as spots fill up fast!
