South Australia turns up the heat for Valentine’s Day

Melissa Smith

From the wine regions to the outback, SA is sharing the love this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day can conjure up some intense feelings, make the heart pump a little harder, and put a spring in your step. For others, they’d like to take Cupid’s arrow and shove it up his little toosh.
Despite your feelings about Cupid, it’s the perfect time to head out and support local businesses that are turning on the love vibes this Valentine’s Day. And for the “uncoupled”, why not gather your favourite single pals and celebrate the love of friendship on the World’s most romantic day of the year?

Wining & Dining in the Valley

Let’s start at the beautiful Clare Valley. Full of delicious wine and food and set amongst the backdrop of rolling hills, it oozes romance.

Head for the hills and indulge in some of the best dining experiences at award-winning restaurants, including Paulett Wines & Bush DeVine Restaurant or Slate Restaurant at Pikes Winery. Both of these Clare Valley gems have recently been awarded their fifth Chef’s Hat.

The ever-popular Terrior at Auburn has notched up the coveted crown 12 years in a row and delivers the most exquisite dining experiences. With a strong focus on seasonality and a weekly changing menu, the team at Terrior serves up the best of Clare Valley produce matched with delicious local wine. You can even stay the night in their sleek accommodation spaces that pay homage to the 1860’s building.

Breathtaking love in the Outback

For the adventure lovers, how about a scenic flight from Rawnsley Park? But no high flier antics on this cosy cruise as you jet set your way through the clouds to discover the breathtaking scenery of the magnificent Flinders Ranges.

The scenic flight by Chinta Air over Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges can be extended to include Lake Eyre / Kati Thanda and the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

Here’s your Knight in Shining Armour

Sinclair’s Gully Winery in the Adelaide Hills is throwing a unique Valentine’s event called “Knights in Shining Armour – Valentine’s Day Music and Picnics”

Emma Knights shines a light on love this Valentine’s Day with songs about finding, losing, and embracing love. From self-love to dreams of love, her covers and originals are full of romance.

Pack a picnic and sip on sparkling drinks, as Emma serenades the crowd.

Who doesn’t love a Duck Fat Roast Potoato?

The flavour of true love is no doubt duck-fat roasted spuds! And the crew at Angus & Co knows that for some, the way to the heart is through the stomach. So why not celebrate with a Valentine’s Day dinner at Barossa Weintal. The evening begins with a welcoming glass of local Soul Growers Sparkling. Then savour the culinary excellence of Chateaubriand, perfectly cooked and served with the juicy love of Duck Fat Roasted Rosemary Potatoes and a Mixed Leaf and Herb Salad. Topped with some delicious in-house sauces, it will be a match made in roasted heaven. And to sweeten the deal, treat yourself to their handmade Classic Apple Tarte Tatin with vanilla bean ice cream.

Nothing screams romance like floating across the Barossa Valley in a hot air balloon. Make sure your Valentine’s Date isn’t afraid of heights though, otherwise it won’t just be romance screaming.

It’s definitely worth the early morning alarm clock to gaze over the lush Barossa Valley vineyards as the family-owned Barossa Balloon Adventures take you on a trip to remember. And for the ultimate romantic there’s even a “Will you marry me?” banner to help you pop the question!

Love is in the “Eyre”

Art lovers in the Eyre Peninsula are in for a treat with this event. Paint your loved one “Pop Art Style” – Despite how that sounds, you’re not painting ON them, although that could certainly be a Valentine’s Day to remember!
The best part is, the talented host Rebecca Palmer will do the hard work for you by pre-drawing your portrait, so on the night you can play with paint and choose a text quote.
With two sessions being hosted at Cummins Hotel and Boston Bay Winery, you can take your pick for a Valentine’s celebration with a twist.
Tickets include all materials and dinner so grab yours by February 7 to not miss out!

Here’s one for the Swingers!

Join the 25-piece Goolwa Big Band for an evening of Valentine’s Day Cabaret Swing Entertainment!

A talented bunch of local muso’s make up this Big Swinging Band which includes two vocalists and is led by the accomplished Allan Blackledge.

Pack some snacks and nibbles, grab a glass of wine from the bar for a swinging night of toe-tapping live music.

Take your chance on a ticket at the door or grab one here.

Do it French-style

Romance and Fine Spirits are in store at Renmark’s 23rd St Distillery where you can treat your favourite person to a romantic evening of exquisite French-inspired cuisine.

Topped with a complimentary sparkling upon arrival, you can choose from a 2-course experience or a 3-course feast while sipping crafted cocktails.

Parking on the beach maybe?

Who says you need to spend a lot of money on Valentine’s Day to show your special someone that you care?

Not many things top a Yorke Peninsula sunset. Why not take a drive to your favourite spot along YP’s beautiful coastline and pack a picnic for a seaside dinner as you watch the sun go down? There’s even a drive-on beach at Wallaroo’s North Beach for the perfect beach setting.

Turns out you don’t need a trip to the Maldives to see picture-perfect waters with Flaherty’s Beach just a car trip away. This hidden gem that sits between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton was named the 4th best beach in Australia for 2022 according to Tourism Australia. No wonder it’s a favourite with the locals. Also a drive-on beach, you’ll need a 4WD for this one, or take a quick walk up the boardwalk to fall in love with one of YP’s favourite destinations.

A starry Island night?

There’s nothing more romantic than a star-filled night. What is it about stars and romance? And why do pick-up lines like this exist, “Your father must be a thief because he stole the sparkle from the stars, and put it in your eyes”? Excuse me while I gag.

But if stars and a side dish of mystery are your thing, then this is the place for you!

Under the magnificent canopy of the Enchanted Fig Tree at Middle River on Kangaroo Island, a series of tasting courses is presented as it’s lit up by tiny lights and candles for a unique and romantic dining experience.

The special Valentine’s Dinner includes seven tasting courses, a complimentary lover’s cocktail on arrival, and the first glass of bubbles in the tree. Live entertainment will also feature amongst the flame-lit limbs and twinkling lights.

Inspired by the beauty of the southern starry sky and colours, Starlit Dinners are perfect for a romantic dinner.
