Star-Studded Cast in the Aussie Netflix Series ‘Territory’
The Adelaide Plains town of Mallala will soon be gracing TV screens around the world, adding a touch of South Australia to the new wild and untamed outback Netflix series, Territory.
Late last year an entourage of directors, actors, set, and film crews descended upon the farming community, transforming it into a scene which looked like the Aussie version of America’s most popular series, Yellowstone.
Headlining the outback drama, which is due to debut on Netflix in October, is Anna Torv, known for her roles in “Mindhunter” and “The Newsreader,” and Michael Dorman, from “For All Mankind” and “Patriot.”
“Territory,” previously known under the working title “Desert King,” is set against the rugged backdrop of the Australian Outback and tells the tale of the Lawson family, owners of the world’s largest cattle station, as they grapple with the absence of a clear successor. Noticing the decline of this once-mighty dynasty, the Outback’s most powerful factions—rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders, and billionaire miners, move in for the kill. With billions of dollars at stake, everyone wants their piece of the Outback pie. It’s going to be hot, dusty, and undeniably sexy, with a barrage of guns, helicopters, and cattle thrown in for good measure.
Produced by South Australian Paul Ranford and directed by Greg McLean, the mastermind behind “Wolf Creek”, “Territory” the six-episode series promises to be a jewel in Netflix’s crown of Australian productions, joining the ranks of other South Australian-made gems like “Run Rabbit Run” starring Sarah Snook and the drama series “Stateless” featuring Cate Blanchett.
Joining Torv and Dorman on screen is an ensemble cast of Aussie acting heavy-hitters, including Sara Wiseman, Dan Wyllie, Clarence Ryan, Jay Ryan, Philippa Northeast, Joe Klocek, Kylah Day, Hamilton Morris, Sam Delich, Tyler Spencer, Tuuli Narkle, and Jake Ryan. Spanning the remote locations of the Northern Territory and South Australia including UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and the real-life Tipperary Station—”Territory” promises to be an all-Australian, high-stakes affair. And yes, it’s a long way to Tipperary!
So, set your Netflix reminder for October 24, and prepare to be transported to the heart of the Outback.
