‘Lien’ and ‘Thunderstruck’ bring raw connection and high-energy dance performance to regional SA
From sheep shearing to centre stage, Lewis Major is proving that contemporary dance isn’t just for city folk. Raised in the southeast of South Australia, he knows firsthand how rare it is for regional audiences to experience live dance performances. Now, as an award-winning choreographer, he’s bringing world-class dance straight to country communities with Lien and Thunderstruck – two performances that offer a one-of-a-kind experience.
Lien is as intimate as it gets – one artist, one audience member, 10 minutes onstage. There are no big crowds and no distractions – just a raw, spontaneous exchange where the dancer creates a unique performance based on a conversation with you. It’s dance stripped back to its core, and a blind-date-style encounter that’s all about connection. If you’ve ever thought dance was too hard to understand, this is your chance to be part of something real, personal, and completely unscripted.

Then, on the same night, Thunderstruck: A Night of Classic Rock flips the switch. Lewis teams up with international violin virtuoso Blue Violin for a high-energy fusion of contemporary dance and iconic rock anthems. A classically trained musician and founder of the Boston String Quartet, Blue Violin has performed with the likes of Paul Simon, Gloria Estefan, and John Mayer. His electrifying style blends classical technique with rock and roll energy, making for a thrilling collaboration. Audiences will be treated to power ballads like Footloose and Stairway to Heaven reimagined through live violin loops, while dancers move under the glow of 500 onstage candles. It’s classical meets rock ‘n’ roll, in a goosebump-inducing show that brings big-stage energy to country audiences.
Both performances are hitting regional South Australia, with stops in Port Pirie, Whyalla, Coober Pedy, Renmark, Mount Gambier, Robe, Coonawarra, and the stunning Maple & Pine in the Bundaleer Forest.
Whether you’re keen for a personal dance experience or an electrifying night of music and movement, this is a rare chance to see world-class performance art in your own backyard.
