Multi-Million Funding Package for Outback Airstrips, Community Centres and More
The Albanese and Malinauskas Governments are delivering a big win for outback South Australia with $7 million in funding for vital road and community infrastructure projects.
“After visiting outback South Australia last year – where I spoke with remote communities about their infrastructure needs, including at Andamooka, Pimba, Roxby Downs and William Creek – I know that our $7 million investment will make a huge impact,” said Federal Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain MP.
Andamooka will get a facelift with the completion of their Community Recreation Centre, allowing more regular community activities and providing a space for groups to meet.
The resurfacing and upgrades to the Andamooka Airstrip are welcomed news for the passionate community. This will ensure that the Royal Flying Doctor Service delivers critical healthcare to one of SA’s favourite outback towns. Parachilna will receive improved access to health services through upgrades at their airstrip which is also on the list of upgrades.
Other projects across the outback include new signage at over 100 locations, incorporating Aboriginal languages and highlighting local landmarks; a new solar system and battery storage for Fowler Bay Community Hall allowing for Year-round events; and a lighting upgrade at Penong Sports Ground helping Western Uniting Tigers Football Club shine brighter.
The State Government will also resurface Coorabie Road, at Coorabie, to provide more reliable and sustained access between the Eyre Highway, Coorabie and Fowlers Bay after rainfall events.
