The Amy Gillett Bikeway is getting even bigger!

Get ready to pull on your lycra because a new six-kilometre section of the Amy Gillett Bikeway is being built, stretching from Mount Torrens to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills.

This $5.7 million project is a team effort, with both the feds and the state government chipping in to make it happen. Adelaide Hills Council is also throwing in some cash to get the expansion rolling.

The Amy Gillett Bikeway is named after Amy Gillett, a member of the Australian women’s cycling team who was tragically killed while training in Germany in 2005. Already a favourite for cyclists, walkers and even horse riders, it winds its way 17 kilometres through the scenic Adelaide Hills, following an old railway line.

This extension adds another chapter to the bikeway story which was first started in 2010. By next year, you’ll be able to ride all the way from Oakbank to Birdwood – that’s some serious peddling to be done! ️
