Think your town’s got what it takes to be SA’s next Ag Town of the Year?
You reckon your patch of dirt has the goods? Your silo art’s the best in the biz, your locals know their way around a header, and your community spirit’s what makes your town proud, not just of its past, but of its future? Well, now’s the time to put your Ag Town on the map.
Nominations are officially open for the 2025 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year, and if ever there was a time to brag about your hometown, it’s now.
This award isn’t just about paddocks and production. It’s about the towns that live and breathe agriculture, and the flow-on effects that make these places some of the best to live, work and raise a family in country SA.

Last year, Penola took the top spot and was crowned South Australian Ag Town of the Year. Sure, they’ve got wine, but they also grow just about everything else you can imagine – grains, beef, lamb, pines, even hemp. Add to that a wildly creative community that’s educating kids across the country about ag through George the Farmer, and you’ve got a town that’s not only proud of its roots, but actively growing the next generation of ag leaders.
The year before Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula with a population of just 548, punched well above its weight with farmer-led research groups, smart tourism moves (hello, 70-tonne Australian Farmer Statue) and a community that genuinely backs its youngest members to embrace life on the land.
Other previous winners like Kimba, Cleve, Pinnaroo and Mypolonga have all shown that it’s not size that matters, but heart, hustle, topped with regional grit.
Agriculture is the backbone of country SA and even after the worst drought in living memory (and with bugger-all rain on the radar), our ag towns keep showing up, innovating, supporting each other and growing the good stuff – on and off the land.
So if you’re sitting there thinking, “Our town’s got a bit of that magic too,” don’t wait and nominate! Whether you’re a farmer, a local business owner, a school teacher, or the unofficial mayor of the local front bar, this is your chance to show the rest of SA what makes your town special.
