Mt Gambier Women’s Work Depot is on a mission.

Mt. Gambier Women’s Work Depot – a little slice of heaven in the heart of the town.

Back in 1971, when flared pants and disco were all the rage, a group of women in Mt. Gambier decided to get together and create something truly unique. What they came up with has been warming hearts and filling stomachs for over 50 years.

Likened to a Trading Table on steroids, the volunteer-run organsiation with a big heart is a symbol of what a community can achieve when they come together.

But it’s not all about crocheted blankets and cream puffs – The Women’s Work Depot is on a mission. The fully self-funded, volunteer-run organisation not only provides amazing homemade and homegrown affordable goods but they donate any profits they make to local charities. This year, they supported Mt Gambier change makers Four Reasons Why and Sunset Community Kitchen, both founded by women who wanted to make a difference. From humble beginnings, these charities continue to grow and support local people through various campaigns, improving the quality of life for locals and families in need.

Just like the members of Mt Gambier Women’s Depot, these innovative, forward-thinking people don’t just talk the talk, they pull up their sleeves and take action. And action is what the Mt Gambier Women’s Depot is all about. As well as the shop, the dedicated bunch caters for functions including birthday parties and funerals. Word on the street is that their resident birthday cake maker is kept busy whipping up extraordinary and delicious decorated creations.

Always on the lookout for new members, young or old, everyone can join in and give back. So, if you live in the South and you’ve got some family recipes hidden away, some green thumbs itching to pot some plants, or a love of art and craft, this is the place for you.

It’s easy to support them in other ways too. Have you grown a stack of veggies and don’t know what to do with them? Got a cupboard full of wool or material you no longer use? Why not drop it in and while you’re there, load up on homemade jam, or buy a Christmas pudding that tastes ‘just like Grandma used to make’, and become a part of the heartwarming story of the Mt. Gambier Women’s Work Depot? It’s like a warm, homemade hug for your soul.
