Master your farm’s finances with free Rabo workshops

Boost business with Rabo Client Council’s farm financial workshops

This October, primary producers in the South Australian communities of Arthurton and Spalding have the opportunity to boost their financial know-how at a series of free workshops.

They say the office is one of the most important paddocks on the farm, but it can also be one of the most challenging. If you’re a farmer—or partnered up with one and have found yourself sowing the seeds in the office paddock—this might be just what you need. The best part? The folks at Rabo welcome all primary producers, no matter who you bank with!

Navigating the world of business banking can feel like wandering through a maze and tackling financial details can be confusing, but these practical Financial Skills Workshops are designed to help you level up your skills and also catch up with fellow producers.

Learn hands-on financial skills to keep your farm running smoothly

Hosted by the Rabo Client Council – a group of Rabobank clients who volunteer their time to support rural and regional sustainability – these workshops offer hands-on guidance on financial statements and banking requirements. They cover essential topics such as taxation vs. management accounting, business management ratios, and understanding key components of your business’s financial profile.

Rabobank South Australian Rabo Client Council member and Spalding-based crop and sheep producer, Melissa Longmire, says, “These workshops are designed to help equip farmers with key financial skills and tools for managing agricultural operations effectively.”

Melissa highlights that these workshops are aimed specifically at farm owners and managers, bridging the gap between farming expertise and financial know-how. “Even some seasoned farmers might not be very familiar with financial reporting and banking requirements, or they may simply wish to update their knowledge of business financial analysis,” she explains.

These workshops are perfect for couples and family members to attend together. “These sessions provide a valuable chance to step away from the day-to-day of running a farming business, absorb the same information, and develop a shared understanding of financial reporting. By learning together, farming families can improve their financial skills as a team,” adds Melissa.

Strengthening rural communities

The Rabo Client Council network is all about grassroots initiatives that support agri-education, rural well-being, sustainability, adaptation, and connections between rural and urban communities.

“By equipping primary producers with the skills to effectively use financial reporting and navigate banking processes, the Financial Skills Workshops help strengthen the resilience and prosperity of local farming businesses,” she says. “As a result, our rural and regional communities benefit from a financially healthy local agricultural sector.”

Rabobank’s state manager for South Australia, Northern Territory, and North West Victoria, Roger Matthews, shared that since launching these workshops in 2018, the Rabo Client Councils have reached over 5,000 farmers across Australia and New Zealand. “Producers who attended previous Rabobank Financial Skills Workshops have told the bank the information provided is invaluable,” Mr. Matthews adds.

Led by Tony Hudson, the director of Hudson Facilitation, places are limited to just 30 participants in each workshop, so be sure to grab your spot before they’re gone!
