Discover over 350 unique events across South Australia’s Libraries this July

When was the last time you did something for the first time? That’s the question South Australia’s libraries are asking again this July during Firstival 2025.

Back for its third year, Firstival invites people of all ages to step outside their usual routine and try something new. With more than 350 free or low-cost events happening at over 130 libraries across the state, there’s never been a better excuse to do something for the first time.

Arts, science, stories, and self-care – Firstival covers it all and this year, regional libraries are showing what they’re made of!

From bird feeder workshops in Roxby Downs to deep breathing and wellness in Willunga, libraries are getting creative. Kapunda’s all about homemade lip balm, Naracoorte is stacking Lego at speed, and Murray Bridge is mixing paint with planting. Up in Whyalla, kids can dive into slime, sparkle and all things cuttlefish as part of the yearly Cuttlefest celebrations.

But that’s just the start.

There are also classes on crocheting reusable makeup wipes, workshops on how to ferment your own kombucha, VR art experiences, fairy garden building, zine making, toddler discos, and even a few chances to bust out your belly dancing moves.

Firstival is an invitation to rediscover your local library as a place to learn, connect, create and just try something different. Whether it’s your first time spinning a record, creating a zine, or sipping homemade kefir, Firstival is all about that little thrill of doing something new.
