Local market a community treasure
More than just a market, Macclesfield’s monthly gathering in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, demonstrates the town’s welcoming spirit and its commitment to creating connections within the community.
Held on the first Sunday of the month from 9am to 2pm at the historic Macclesfield Hall, the market boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere with 25 stalls to browse. Local produce, quality handmade products including wooden items, original mosaic designs, one-off art pieces, children’s items, jewellery, and fresh produce are just some of the items up for grabs each month.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Macclesfield Market supports local artisans and producers as well as opportunities for home-grown musicians to showcase their talents. The market also extends a warm welcome to furry friends, making it a dog-friendly day out for visitors.
A unique aspect of the market is the initiative by the Macclesfield Community Association, providing a platform for locals to sell their goods. A designated table allows them to sell their homemade products including preserves, garden seedlings, herbs and fruit.
Beyond the market, Macclesfield invites guests to make a day of it. Head down to Crystal Lake Park – a conservation and recreation park and check out the largest collection of permanent stone sculptures in a public park in South Australia.
Nearby, the award-winning Longview Vineyard Winery, a finalist in the National Vineyard of the Year, awaits those seeking a sip of regional excellence. For lunch, book a table at one of the two hotels. The Three Brothers Arms and Macclesfield Hotel, serve exceptionally delicious meals with live music and icy cold drinks.
Whether you’re a local seeking homegrown delights or a visitor looking for a Sunday well spent, Macclesfield’s monthly market is just the ticket.
