“I didn’t know the Oz Lotto jackpot had been won. I just came in to check my ticket”
A Burra man is a little shellshocked after discovering he’d scooped a $50 million division one Oz Lotto prize in Tuesday night’s draw.
While others were in a mad panic searching for tickets and wishing they’d actually bought one, the man who is a new local to the Burra district casually wandered into Tim Siv’s Terry White pharmacy in Market Square to check his tickets. The first ticket turned up a small win, before shocked retail manager, Kelly Bray, asked the ticket holder to check out the screen which revealed the $50 million jackpot!
“I didn’t even know the Oz Lotto jackpot had been won and there was a winner. I just came in to check my ticket,” he told an official from The Lott, moments after finding out he was now a multi-millionaire!
“Oh my god. I can’t believe it. I was just saying to myself this morning, $50,000 would be alright heading into Christmas but $50 million!”
Feeling overwhelmed, he told The Lott official that the life changing win will see an end to his working days, and that he would treat himself and his family.
Kelly Bray said both she, the lucky winner, and other pharmacy staff were shaking with excitement.
“I was gobsmacked when I saw the 50 million come up. I just couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“To tell someone they’d won such a life-changing amount was amazing,”
The Burra win is the second-biggest win to land in South Australia in 2024. In May this year, the state welcomed Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner, an Adelaide man who pocketed a $150 million Powerball prize.
In addition to the division one winning entry, there were 719,479 prizes worth more than $67 million in divisions two to seven. This included 10 division two winners who each took home $62,689.10.
The Lott reminds players of the importance of registering their tickets to The Lott Members Club, so all of their prizes are secure and they can be contacted directly with the good news of a big win.
