Fast fish and big wins are up for grabs at Port Lincoln’s Tuna Classic
This competition isn’t just about bragging rights – a massive prize pool, handcrafted trophies, and fabulous fishing memories are up for grabs too.
It all kicks off on Friday, March 7, with a skipper and crew briefing before Saturday’s shotgun start sees boats racing to their favourite fishing spots.
Over two days, teams will compete to tag and release as many tuna as possible on 10kg line, with every catch contributing to the “Shootout.”
Meanwhile, anglers vie for the biggest tuna in the Calcutta Competition, which set a new record last year of $91,400, with $63,980 for first place, $18,280 for second, and $4,570 for third, plus a matching $4,570 donation to Variety – the Children’s Charity via car MLC, The Runaway Brides. This charitable aspect continues in 2025, with the prize pool split 70% to first place, 15% to second, 5% to third, and 10% donated to Variety.
On Saturday night, competitors can recharge and share tales aboard the Tacoma mothership, as well as last-minute strategy updates. By Sunday afternoon, it’s back to shore for the live weigh-in and the highly anticipated Presentation Night Dinner at the Marina Hotel, where trophies, prizes, and some friendly banter take centre stage.
Beyond the fishing, this event highlights the beauty of the Eyre Peninsula, well-known as Australia’s Seafood Frontier. With 2,000km of stunning coastline and a commitment to sustainable practices, it’s the perfect backdrop for a weekend of fishing and fun.
So, get your crew sorted, dust off your gear, and secure your spot now.
