Yorke Peninsula Booking System Ends Camping Frustration

Yorke Peninsula Council Bush Camping is getting a much-needed upgrade. Starting July 1, 2024, a new user-friendly booking system will be launched to tackle the growing popularity of camping in the area.

Mayor Darren Braund knows that camping is booming, and is causing some crowded areas, especially during peak season. This can be frustrating for campers hunting for a place to pitch their tent, and it’s not great for the environment either. The new booking system is their way to fix this and keep these awesome coastal campgrounds healthy for years to come.

The biggest change is that campers will now need to book a specific campground before they set off on their Yorke Peninsula adventure. Each campground has a limited number of spots to prevent overcrowding and ensure everyone has a place to camp. If you plan to visit multiple campgrounds during your trip, you can simply book multiple bookings, reserving a spot at each campground you want to stay at. Campers with monthly permits who wish to visit multiple locations can contact the council to discuss their options.

The new booking system is designed to be user-friendly. You can book online, browse photos of the campgrounds to pick your favourite, and even update your booking details with refunds for cancellations made at least 7 days before your booking starts.

Thankfully, many things about Bush Camping will remain the same. All 19 campgrounds are still available and Bush Camping remains a self-contained experience, so remember to bring your own toilet (although most campgrounds have a backup option). Don’t forget to purchase a permit before you set up camp, as there’s a fine for camping without one. Discounts are still available for weekly and monthly permits, as well as for Yorke Peninsula Council ratepayers. Once you arrive at your chosen campground, you can still pick your campsite on a first-come, first-served basis. The same rules for dogs and campfires will also still apply.
