From local jewellery to eco-friendly giftware, this Goolwa store is a must-see for anyone who loves creative artistry
In the Fleurieu town of Goolwa, there’s a little shop filled with creativity, craftsmanship, and character.
Fossick Made and Found is as much about the story as it is about the stunning products on its shelves. Owners Farley and Katrina – once neighbors, now partners in life and business – have brought their combined talents to a brick-and-mortar store that’s all about making and finding uniquely Australian treasures.
Already an accomplished jewellery maker, Katrina’s fork-in-the-road moment started years ago with a simple lost purse. Frustrated with the lack of personal, functional options on the market, she made one herself, stitching it together from vintage fabric found in her grandmother’s collection. Friends loved it, then an interstate retailer wanted in, and well-known brand Kitty Came Home was born. Fast forward a couple of decades, the Kitty Came Home range now includes a full creative colourful line of jewellery, clutches, tea towels, and even wrapping paper.
Farley joined the mix full-time in 2010, bringing his practical skills, artistic eye, and background in anthropology and English lit (with a bit of automotive, hospitality, and leatherwork for good measure). He keeps the business running smoothly, herds the words, and designs and makes products right alongside Katrina. Together, they bring their unique blend of experience to everything they create.
Opening Fossick Made and Found in 2023 was a natural next step for this dynamic duo. After years of hopping between design markets across Australia, they decided to set up shop and bring their handmade goods, and the work of other Aussie artisans they’d met along the way, to the local community. “It’s almost like a curated gallery in a way”, co-owner Farley said. “Each piece tells a story created by artists who love to make beautiful things by hand.”
You’ll find Kitty Came Home creations alongside Katrina Weber Jewellery – exquisite silver and gold pieces, from earrings and rings to necklaces and bracelets. There’s also a lineup of Australian-made pieces from talented artists like South Australia’s Lisa Butler of Fleeci, who crafts soft, eco-friendly giftware inspired by Aussie wildlife. You’ll find ceramics for every taste from the smooth lines of Gibson & Co., the colourful and textured range created by Arcadia Scott, and the earthy tones of Clay by KHOA. Timber bowls and sculptures by Studio Do Two adorn the shelves among a range of other unique handmade items.
So if you’re in Goolwa, drop by Fossick Made and Found for a slice of genuine, handcrafted Australian creativity. Farley and Katrina will be there, happy to share the stories behind each piece, whether it’s something they’ve made themselves or a gem they’ve discovered from another Aussie maker.
