Giddy up and strap in for the 30th Marree Camel Cup

Saddle up for a wild ride as the Marree Camel Cup celebrates 30 years of sprints and stumbles through the desert

For three decades, these mighty humpbacks have delivered thrills, spills and outback entertainment in one of the most iconic race meets in the country. More than just racing, it’s a proud tribute to Marree’s Afghan heritage and the cameleers who opened up the outback. It’s a day for the community to come together, share stories, and honour a legacy that still lives strong in Marree today.

Of course, the camels aren’t the only ones kicking up the dust. Don’t miss the hilarious donkey races, where riders jump on wild donkeys in a bid to be the fastest ass in the outback. And if you’ve got a nose for the odds, you can place your bets and cheer on your favourites.

There’ll also be footraces, tug-of-war comps, novelty events with cash prizes, and Fashions on the Field for the little ones who want to show off their best outback looks.

Stalls from across the region will be popping up, including The Brush Bar, where you can design and burn your very own hat to take home. You’ll also find Andamooka Gift Barn with handmade candles and homewares, and Southern Rustic serving up custom country clothing with a modern twist. The kids can get their faces painted, plus there’ll be plenty of local crafts, quirky finds, and maybe even a few surprise pop-ups on the day.

And with Variety – the Children’s Charity SA handling catering, you can chow down for a good cause, with all proceeds supporting kids and families in need.

Before the night kicks into gear, make sure you take a moment to soak up the incredible outback scenery and watch Marree’s iconic sunset unfold. Then, once the stars are out, the outback hospitality will be flowing faster than the beer, with dinner, an auction, and music keeping the good times rolling. And don’t forget to pack your best boots to carve up the dancefloor under the desert sky.

Camping’s free from Friday to Sunday – no bookings, just rock up, roll out your swag, and get ready for a weekend you won’t forget.
