Fleeces to fly at Mount Gambier’s South Eastern Hotel
Cash prizes are up for grabs as shearers flock to Mount Gambier this Saturday, December 2, for the inaugural South Eastern Hotel Speed Shearers Competition.
With backing from sponsors including Coopers and Coca-Cola, the pre-Christmas event is looking to be a thrill ride to see who clocks in with the fastest fleece.
Shearing is no longer seen as a demanding and arduous farm job, it’s now being recognised as an elite sporting pursuit.
Unofficially, the Australian speed shear record sits at 16.78 seconds which was recently claimed by Jimmy Samuels in an unbelievable display of supafly talent that lined his pockets with prize money valued at ten thousand dollars.
If you’re ready to test your talents with the shears, there are divisions in both Open and Intermediate classes.
The rest of us will sit back and enjoy the “shear delight’ of the fabulous Limestone Coast event.
