Gynburra Festival lights up the Yorke Peninsula this January

Port Victoria’s Gynburra Festival is all about community, culture, and fun.  With a jam-packed schedule, this two-day event is perfect for all ages celebrating the culture and traditions of the Narungga people – the traditional owners of the Yorke Peninsula.

Kicking off on Friday, January 24, the free Family Fun Day will be filled with kids’ activities, live entertainment, and stalls, plus a free movie night at the Town Hall featuring the family-friendly film Migration.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll find a variety of food stalls, including Greek souvlaki from OREXI, ice creams from Big Softy’s, BBQs by the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol, and more. For a sweet treat, visit the licorice & lolly stand, or grab pizza and takeaways from the Port Victoria General Store and enjoy dinner at the Port Victoria Hotel (be sure to book early).

On Saturday, January 25, the celebrations continue with the Clem Graham Memorial Butterfish Competition, launching from the Port Victoria Boat Ramp. This popular event invites men and boys to show off their hunting skills and compete for impressive prizes, including the Butterfish King title and $1000 cash.

A pamper day at the jetty for women will feature a special yoga session, followed by a light brunch. Spaces are limited, so be sure to register early! The day continues with kids’ entertainment and cultural activities, all leading up to a spectacular fireworks display from the jetty at 9:15pm.

Gynburra is a proud celebration of community and culture, offering a unique opportunity to discover the creative spirit of the Narungga people – an event you won’t want to miss!
